About Me

Welcome!
My name is Dave Kilgannon. I'm a lifelong boxing enthusiast with nearly 40 years of experience in the sport—both in the ring and as a coach. My journey in boxing began in Grade 9 in Prince George, B.C., where I first trained with my friend Alan at the only boxing gym in town—owned by Alan’s father. That early exposure sparked a lifelong love for the sport.
Over the years, I’ve trained and competed in several cities across Canada, including:
-Prince George, B.C.
-Peterborough, ON (Blue Horizons with Coach Kerry Hendren)
-Mississauga, ON (HUF with Coaches Olga and Andrew Heron)
-Oakville, ON (Primetime with Coach Greg “Pops” Post and professional boxer Ryan Young)
I competed in the early 1990s and have sparred thousands of rounds—sparring remains my favorite aspect of boxing. That deep, hands-on experience fuels my coaching.
Coaching Experience
I've been coaching boxing since 2006, teaching students of all levels how to develop their skills, build confidence, and meet personal fitness or competitive goals. My coaching history includes:
-Buckley Jiu Jitsu and MMA (2006–2014)
-CMHA Halton's "Boxing for Health" Program (2015–2020)
-Milton Muay Thai (2021–2023)
I’ve also taught many family members and friends the art of boxing, and continue to offer both private sessions and small group training. My coaching approach is extremely student-focused and flexible, adapting to the unique goals, fitness levels, and experience of each individual.

My Approach

Boxing is more than just a sport—it’s a lifestyle, a mindset, and a powerful tool for personal growth. I believe that’s what makes it the most fun and most effective cardio workout there is (second only to marathon running or swimming!).My training sessions
-Technique drills (punching, footwork, shadow boxing)
-Bag work (heavy bags, double-end bags)
-Focus mitts and hand pad work
-Offence and defense drills
-Core/ab circuits
-Partner body-work (if preferred)
-Boxing psychology (overcoming exhaustion, outthinking/outlasting opponents)
-Confidence and mindset training
Core values I emphasize
-Technique over power
-Cardio over raw talent
-Respect, humility, and discipline
-Building confidence and self-esteem
-Using boxing for self-defence, fitness, weight loss, or competition
Why I Coach
I absolutely love boxing—and that passion is obvious when you train with me. There’s nothing more rewarding than watching a student develop their skills, grow in confidence, and hit their personal goals—whether that’s throwing a clean 1-2 combo, getting in shape, or stepping into the ring.
I bring substantial experience, technical understanding, and a genuine enthusiasm to every session. If you’re looking for a coach who’s deeply invested in your development, I’d love to work with you.
